Congratulations to those ASTO members whose vessels have been invited to take part in the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant on Sunday 3 June. They include "Gipsy Moth IV", Jubilee Sailing Trust's Tall Ship "Tenacious", The Marine Society and Sea Cadets' vessel "TS Royalist", Pioneer Sailing Trust's vessel "Pioneer" and Trinity Sailing Trust's vessel "Provident". |

Jubilee Sailing Trust Charts its first voyage around the Globe with a little help from Thomas Gunn.
Thomas Gunn Navigations Services has donated a complete set of world routing charts to enable the Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) to voyage around the globe for the first time, creating an unprecedented opportunity for physically disabled people to explore the world from the decks of a square-rigged sailing ship.

3rd annual UK Sail Training Conference 2012 |

The 3rd annual UK Sail Training Conference, sponsored by Topsail Insurance and Southampton Solent University, took place on Friday 27th January 2012. More than 100 delegates from 23 UK Sail Training Organisations, as well as representatives from the MCA, Trinity House, Sail Training International and The Green Blue took part in a day filled with informative sessions on vessel safety, company operations, child safeguarding and internet marketing. The various presentations, photographs and follow-on actions from the conference will be available on this website in the next few days. |

2012 London to Portland Small Ships Race |
|
A large fleet of Sail Training vessels will race to Portland in the summer of 2012. On the second weekend in June, 300 young people from Dorset and London will gather in West India Docks to prepare for the London to Portland Small Ships Race. 25 vessels ranging from 100 year old pilot cutters to modern ocean racing yachts are due to take part in an offshore race from London to Portland, and each boat will be crewed by young people from 12 years upwards.
The charities running the vessels use Sail Training to provide life changing opportunities for young and disabled people from across the UK. Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) is working together with the Association of Sail Training Organisations (ASTO) to organise this spectacular youth event.
The ships will depart London on 11th June, 2012 and race to Weymouth and Portland, arriving on 15th June, 2012. On the 16th June, HM The Queen's representative in Dorset, the Lord Lieutenant, Val Pitt-Rivers will start another race within Weymouth Bay by firing a cannon from the Nothe Fort. The races will be followed with a prize-giving at the Academy in the evening of the 16th.
